In-Game Description: The Manta Rays best feature would be the way it glides across the water like a bird, flapping its side fins up and down like wings. It has an elegance to it.

Authors In-Depth Description: I used the Manta Ray species of ray as my inspiration because this is the most commonly known species and the one used in the kids movie Finding Nemo. This is in the other section as Manta rays are actually their own species. They are also often categorized with sharks but I decided to put it in the other sections anyway as I couldn't think of it as a shark -_-'

In-Game Description: This rare fish is part pear part fish and yes it does taste like both. However, both tastes are soft and subtle so they compliment each other nicely.

Authors In-Depth Description: There is obviously no such thing as a pear fish but I am making a fish for every fruit in the game so this is the pear fish. I will have to design it myself but below are some notable examples which I may take inspiration from. Although I do have the idea to make it a sideways pear shape so the lump and stem at the top is the nose of the fish and then just add fins. The sillier the better.

In-Game Description: The goby is a quaint little fish that can be found almost anywhere. It is part of one of the largest fish families with more than 1000 different species.

Authors In-Depth Description: the in-game description is true information I found when researching the goby. The round goby is the one I decided to go with as it has pretty strong patterns and colours but may species of goby could have done well as well. The pattern is complex so I may simplify it for the games design.

In-Game Description: The sturgeon has a streamlined shape and it wears strong bony plates on its back, making it a strong little fish. It uses its pointy nose to find food in the river bed.

Authors In-Depth Description: The facts in the in-game description are true facts I found out when researching this fish. It is a pretty distinctive fish so it is good for putting in my game.

In-Game Description: The squid is famous for its ability to squirt black ink at its predators. This ink can sometimes be used as a garnish for food such as spaghetti.

Authors In-Depth Description: RPGs especially ones with fishing in are often Japanese in origin so the Japanese common squid is likely the species of squid you will see in video games. This is a rather easy to identify squid and fits with the visage everyone imagines when they think of the squid so this is why I will use it in my game.

In-Game Description: A fish that is known for swimming in groups known as schools. Their skin spoils quickly and so they should be eaten on the day they are caught.

Authors In-Depth Description: The Atlantic mackerel is most well known and often referred to species of mackerel so this will be my inspiration. It quite distinctive patterns on its spine which will help it to be easily identifiable in the game.

In-Game Description: These versatile fish can come in many different sizes. A simple fish similar to the bass, they are a common catch for fishing enthusiasts.

Authors In-Depth Description: There are many kinds of trout but the one often referred to is the rainbow trout and it has a distinctive colourful shine so this will be the one I use as inspiration. It will likely look similar to the lower example below.

In-Game Description: The octopus is easy to recognise with its eight tentacles but did you know it actually has a beak for a mouth? They are considered a delicacy in some countries.

Authors In-Depth Description: There are many kinds of octopus but the octopus which is often portrayed in games is the common octopus like the ones shown in the examples below. The red colour and features such as the tentacles are often exaggerated like the sculpture example below. This is what mine will most likely look like.

In-Game Description: Also known as a Nursehound or Bull Huss, this shark is a small shark related to the catshark. How ironic. Although it doesn't look like a dog or a cat.

Authors In-Depth Description: When researching Catfish I was curious to find out if there was a dogfish and here it is. Despite its name, it is a shark and not a fish and has no resemblance to a dog at all but it is pretty cute in some pictures. Dogfish are sometimes featured in video games or some variant of the species is as there are many types of dogfish. The one I decided to go with is the Spiny Dogfish as this one has clear spots on it which I think will help make it more different to other shark species I have in the game. The final design will likely look more like the artwork example below than the real thing. The in-game description information is true stuff I found out about the fish when I was researching.
